Quick answer

Use Faithful Doubles as the engine, Black Needle as the melee weapon, and build toward Phantom stacking/detonation. The doubles attack from range, can draw enemy attention and can copy weapon behavior at higher investment, letting you add Black Needle hits while the boss is busy with your summons.

Why this build is strong

Genessa solves two Soulslike problems at once:

  • she creates damage without standing in the boss’s face the entire time;
  • the same summons can steal attention, creating safer melee windows.

That makes her one of the strongest launch Shells without requiring perfect parry timing.

Core ability: Faithful Doubles

Invest into the nodes that make the doubles:

  • cheaper to summon / better at refunding Resolve;
  • attack more times or deal more damage;
  • apply more Phantom pressure;
  • reliably draw enemy attention;
  • copy the equipped weapon ability when that node becomes available.

The full-release build test treats Faithful Doubles as the normal-mode priority and stray-form upgrades as insurance, not as the main plan.

Weapon: Black Needle

The launch build uses Black Needle because it supports the same Phantom idea as the summons. Multi-hit thrust behavior helps stack the effect quickly, and the weapon’s relevant ability can be copied by Faithful Doubles once the passive is online.

The test specifically pairs the weapon with Conqueror’s Reward to create repeated thrusts that accelerate the stack-and-detonate loop.

Support Tarstone direction

The tested build uses generic melee support around the Phantom core, including launch examples such as:

  • Thief Stone for attack speed;
  • Auspicious Stone for melee critical chance;
  • Headsman Stone for critical damage;
  • damage/survival support depending on how risky you want to play.

Do not copy the entire set if it conflicts with a stone you have already upgraded heavily. The Shell + Black Needle + Phantom loop is the important part.

Boss rotation

  1. Summon Faithful Doubles from safe range.
  2. Let them make first contact and pull aggro.
  3. Move behind/alongside the target and use short Black Needle strings.
  4. Build Phantom stacks rather than staying for a greedy long combo.
  5. Back off as the doubles expire.
  6. Re-summon and repeat.

What to do when you become stray

Genessa’s severed state is different from a normal Shell recovery. Full-release tests report that once she becomes stray, you should plan around the stray doubles until you reach/rest at a Beacon rather than expecting the standard damage-to-reclaim-body loop.

That is why defensive positioning still matters even on a “safe summon” build: Genessa’s low health can move you into the less desirable state quickly.
