Quick answer
Treat Glimpses as scarce Shell-Bond currency, not as ordinary skill points. Spend them after you have tried the Shell. Current launch-version testing says Shell Points can be respecced, Glimpse Bond investment cannot. A normal first run does not provide enough to max every Shell.
What a Glimpse actually buys
Glimpses deepen one specific Shell’s Bond. That Bond progression unlocks higher ability tiers and additional memories. Once a new tier is open, you still use Shell Points to activate the abilities you want.
The important distinction is permanent commitment versus flexible allocation.
Where Glimpses come from
Full-release playthroughs and launch guides show Glimpses coming from exploration rewards, Beacon-related challenges, trials, bosses and specific pickups. The game intentionally makes them limited enough that choosing a main Shell matters.
This site does not publish a fake universal farm route for an infinitely repeatable Glimpse source because current launch reports do not support one.
Can you farm Glimpses infinitely?
At launch, the practical answer is not in the same way you farm ordinary Gloom. Community discussion around the first release build specifically centers on the limited number available per cycle and the inability to freely refund Bond spending.
If a later patch introduces a repeatable source or Bond refund, that would materially change this guide.
How much should you spend before committing?
A useful first rule is: unlock enough of a Shell to understand its identity before pushing deeply into the Bond.
For example:
- Tiel makes sense if dodge/stealth/back attacks feel natural.
- Proxima makes sense if you like Bio Sampler and shock pressure.
- Eredrim makes sense if break, riposte and tankiness fit your reactions.
- Smert makes sense if you want to build around Miracle/time control.
- Genessa makes sense if ranged summons and Phantom synergy appeal to you.
The “best” Shell on a tier list is less important than whether you can execute its loop for thirty hours.
Do not confuse the Balance Patch 1 refund with a general Glimpse respec
Balance Patch 1 changed the cost of Shell map locations from Glimpses to Gloom and announced refunds for Glimpses previously spent on those map hints.
That is a targeted economy correction. It should not be read as “all Glimpse investment is refundable.”
Best Glimpse strategy for a first run
- Get Tiel and Proxima early because both are reachable without a deep late-game detour.
- Test a tank/control option such as Eredrim before you spend everything.
- Pick one primary Shell and one secondary plan.
- Put most Glimpses into the primary Shell’s Bond.
- Use free Shell Point respecs for encounter-specific tuning.
- Save leftover Glimpses until a later Shell genuinely changes your mind.
That gives you the most build freedom without pretending the Bond currency is reversible.
FAQ
Can you respec Glimpses in Mortal Shell 2?
Current launch-version sources say no: Glimpses committed to a Shell Bond are not freely refunded. Shell Points, by contrast, can be reallocated.
Can one playthrough max every Shell?
No current launch source supports maxing all eight Shell Bonds in one ordinary playthrough. Plan to specialize or continue progression into later runs.
